Replacement Dwelling
This residential project involved replacement of an early 20th Century timber dwelling on Dartmoor. The original structure was uninsulated, and included extensive areas of asbestos. It was at the end of it's economic life and needed rebuilding.
Strict national park planning rules limited the volume of the replacement dwelling. Space was maximised by careful volumetric calculation to achieve a unique design.
The brief included an objective to retain some essence of the original dwelling in the new design. The use of timber cladding and traditional profile corrugated steel cladding to the walls replicated the lightweight feel of the original dwelling whilst utilising materials common on Dartmoor.
